Your antibiotic warning label should contain information regarding alcohol consumption. If you have any questions about your medication details, talk to your pharmacist or doctor. You may be told by your doctor that occasional drinking is okay. It all depends on your age, general health, and what drug you are taking.

Ask your doctor if you are told by your doctor that alcohol is not safe to consume. After your course of antibiotics is completed, you may have to wait at most 72 hours before you can consume alcohol again.

Alcohol’s effects on the healing of an infection

Drinking alcohol will not prevent your antibiotics from working to treat your infection. However, alcohol can affect your infection’s healing.

For instance, drinking alcohol can disrupt your sleep patterns. You may not get a good night’s rest.

Your body may also be unable to absorb vital nutrients due to alcohol. You can experience an increase in blood sugar and decrease energy.

These factors can all reduce the body’s ability heal from an infection. Whether you are taking medication or not, acute alcohol consumption, binge drinking and chronic alcohol abuse can all lead to serious health problems.

Remember that alcohol doesn’t have to be limited to beer, wine or liquor. You can also find it in mouthwashes, cold medication, and other products.

Talk to your doctor

It is not a good idea to mix alcohol and antibiotics. Side effects can occur in both alcohol and antibiotics. Drinking alcohol while on antibiotics could increase your chance of developing these side effects.
